Our Top Dog staff is dedicated to teaching your child beginner to advanced tumbling and cheer fundamentals while not losing focus of the importance of teamwork and dedication to the sport of cheerleading.
Rick Abasial and his wife Terri own Just Tumblin’ as well as the Florida Top Dog All-Star program. Rick has over 26 years of coaching and cheering experience. He has traveled all across the country as Program Director for the Fellowship of Christian Cheerleaders directing camps for over 10 years. Rick’s strengths as an owner and coach center around instructing tumbling, stunting, dance, cheerleading, and choreographing routines. He is also the owner of Rix Music Mix and mixes music for cheerleaders and gymnast all across the state. Rick is certified and credentialed through USASF. Rick’s coaching motto is “Perfection requires intense determination from everyone.”
Terri Abasial was also a Program Director for the Fellowship of Christian Cheerleaders for over 10 years. She has traveled all across the country as well as to Russia to instruct in cheerleading and dance. Her expertise in choreography has won her many of her teams national and state titles. Terri’s 29 years of cheering and coaching experience include cheering on the collegiate levels and winning many individual cheerleading titles in both junior high and high school. Terri is certified and credentialed through USASF. She believes that “The character traits we learn from cheerleading go much deeper than winning competitions.” Both Rick and Terri were American Cheerleader Magazine’s Who’s Who in All-Star Cheer Coaches as well as 2005 Outstanding Hall of Fame All-Star Coaches.
Jill Martin’s history as a competitor as well as a coach is well-defined through her coaching style. Jill was the California State Gymnastic Champion and a nationally ranked cheerleader in high school. She has traveled throughout the country as well as to Russia and China as an FCC instructor teaching summer cheer camps. Jill has choreographed teams and individuals that have gone on to win national titles and is currently credentialed through USASF. With over 15 years of coaching experience on the junior high, high school, and all-star levels, Jill challenges her teams to always strive for excellence. Her motto is “Sometimes talent isn’t enough, you’ve got to have heart.”
Wes Martin along with his wife Jill have been a part of the Top Dog program since it began in the spring of 2000. With over 10 years of coaching experience, Wes’s strengths in teaching stunting and tumbling make him a valuable asset to the staff. Wes has also taught summer cheerleading camps for the Fellowship of Christian Cheerleaders. His fun-loving coaching style makes him a favorite among the kids. Wes can often be heard saying, “Work hard and have fun doing it, and remember…There’s no crying in cheerleading.”
Christa has been a part of the Top Dog Coaching Staff for almost 10 years and brings with her a wealth of coaching and cheering knowledge. With over 15 years of coaching expertise, Christa excels in expecting excellence from her teams while having fun. Her passion for coaching is evident both on and off the mat. Many of the routines she has choreographed as well as the teams she has coached have won state and national titles. Christa’s coaching motto is to “Leave your heart on the floor.”
Karen Bittinger has been cheering since she was 7 years old, from rec, to all-star, and professional. After her super senior season with Florida Top Dog, she went on to cheer for the Tampa Bay Rays. She cheered for the Tampa Bay Lightning for 4 years, where she choreographed the dances performed by the Lightning Girls. She has spent the last the 3 years cheering for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where she was asked to contribute choreography and lead the team as a co-captain. Karen is currently a certified personal trainer through NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine) as well as a certified aerobic instructor through Les Mills.
Karen has coached high school, rec, professional, and all-star teams. Most of her experience has been coaching at Top Dog since 2006. Her choreography and coaching skills have lead her teams to multiple national championships, state titles, grand championships, choreography awards, and along with the help Rix Mix, many music awards. She believes that in order for her teams to be successful, they must “Practice like they compete.”
Lindsay Gould has been with Florida Top Dog All-Stars for 13 years. She started as a cheerleader and cheered on many different leveled teams, ending her cheer career on our senior coed level 5 team. Lindsay believes in the ministry of Top Dog and makes an impact on the athletes’ lives by challenging them to be their best and believing in them. When Lindsay isn’t coaching she works a pharmaceutical technician. Her passion in life is helping others and it shows when she is coaching her team.
Tracy Urello has been coaching for over 17 years and has experience in all levels as well as all age groups of cheerleading including recreation, high school, and all-star cheerleading. She has been a part of the Top Dog coaching staff for the past 7 years and brings with her a wide knowledge about coaching and cheering. Many of the routines she has choreographed has won state and national titles, as well as Grand National Champion, Most Entertaining, and Best Choreography awards. Tracy’s coaching motto is to “Have fun, work hard, and the rewards will be great.”
Carlene came through the Top Dog program as an athlete on our teams. She started when she was in 7th grade on our junior team and later went on to cheer on our elite Level 5 team. Carlene is head instructor for our Little Puppies Program as well as a coach for our tiny team and youth team. Carlene’s strengths include training our beginner athletes to have proper technique in both cheerleading and tumbling. Carlene goes over and beyond with the athletes to make sure that they are progressing in their skills while having fun. She shows leadership among our staff as she is constantly coming up with creative ways to teach skills in a safe and effective way.
Dominique Rushing started as a Florida Top Dog cheerleader in 2008 and continued until graduating through the program. She joined the Top Dog coaching staff in 2013 coaching both Level 3 and Level 5 teams. In addition to coaching, Dominique works with the Top Dog flyers on stretching and conditioning. She heads up many of our stunt classes and helps to develop good bodylines in our flyers. She has an eye for detail and making routines looked polished and clean.
Ryan’s brings a competitive gymnastics background to our staff. He was the Texas State Level 9 champion as well an Elite Level 10 All Around Gymnast. Ryan was Athlete of the Year for his high school and a National High School Gymnastics Champion. He began his coaching career in 1993 and created and ran one of the largest gyms in Michigan. He is USAG certified and is currently Just Tumblin’s Head Instructor for tumbling classes.
Cody came to Top Dog as a high school athlete and was recruited to be on our Sr. Coed level 5 team. He quickly became a favorite among his teammates and then later joined our staff when he graduated from high school . Cody’s strengths lie in instructing and demonstrating stunts as well as instructing tumbling. Cody enjoys working with youth and the kids, are naturally drawn to his humor and fun way of teaching skills.
Aaron came to Top Dog and Just Tumblin with several years of competitive cheerleading experience. He truly has a passion for the sport and can often be heard in the gym telling athletes, “Positive thoughts equal positive results.” Aaron currently teaches many of our tumbling classes as well as our stunt classes. When he is not in the gym working with athletes, Aaron is going to school to become an engineer and works as a lifeguard. He is currently Red Cross certified as a First Responder, AED and in CPR. Aaron loves this sport because he says its a great way to make new friends and lots of memories.
Kaili has almost 15 years of competitive cheerleading experience. She has cheered on both the recreation and all-star levels. She currently cheers on our level 3 and level 5 teams, as well as works with our Little Puppies I and II classes. Kaili makes a great instructor, especially with stunts, because she can show athletes “hands-on” how to make their stunts stronger. Kaili’s passion for the program is evident through her positive coaching style.
Jennifer has been with the Florida Top Dog Allstars for three seasons. Prior to coming to Top Dog, she spent over ten years coaching at the rec and school levels, winning various local and national championships. Jennifer currently coaches the Top Dog senior mid season team as well the youth level 2 full season team. Jennifer feels very blessed to have the opportunity be a positive influence for so many young children. She loves pushing them to reach their fullest potential and making a difference in their lives. She helps them with discipline and building their confidence. Jennifer’s coaching motto is, “You must have teamwork to be successful.”
Mary Jones – “CheerShop Manager”
Mary came to the Top Dog Ohana over 15 years ago with her daughter taking our little tumbling classes. When her daughter joined our competitive all-star program, Mary took a very active role as our Fundraising Coordinator. Mary believes in the ministry of Top Dog as she has seen the program start on a very small scale and go through years of change and growth to be where it is today. Mary currently manages our Cheer Shop and continues to promote our program through inside and outside sales. She not only caters to the Top Dog program but can also help your high school or recreation team be outfitted with amazing team and parent wear.
